ChatGPT

The Housecat Agent is powered by Codex, and can run on your ChatGPT subscription. Your agent runs on your Workspace VM, which has no browser, so it signs in to ChatGPT with a device code: Housecat shows you a link and a one-time code, you open the link on your laptop or phone, sign in to ChatGPT, and enter the code.

ChatGPT turns device code sign-in off by default. Enable it before you connect, or the code will be rejected.

Personal

On a personal ChatGPT account, you enable it yourself:

  1. Open chatgpt.com and go to Settings → Security and login.
  2. Turn on Enable device code sign-in for Codex.

Workspace

For ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts, a workspace admin enables it for every member:

  1. Open chatgpt.com as a workspace admin and go to Workspace settings → Permissions & roles.
  2. Turn on Enable device code authentication for Codex.

Until an admin enables it, members see:

Please contact your workspace admin to enable device code authentication

and the toggle in their personal settings is greyed out or missing.

Troubleshooting

If you entered the code but Housecat never finishes connecting, check that the setting above is on for the account you signed in with, then start the connection again.
